"In doing this painting, I had to decide if it would be a truly historically accurate piece, depicting a single event with a specific car, or, taking a bit more creative license, creating a day and scene, based on real events with 5 of Shelby's top performers that may have raced at Le Mans from '63-'67. I decided to take the creative route and concentrate on the excitement and awe that must have been felt by everyone present when the Shelby team landed in Europe.
